Claire-Louise Bennett / Friction Talks

On Friday 9 October we will be hosting the first of our new series of writers’ events in East Oxford, under the banner Friction Talks, at Quarter Horse Coffee on Cowley Road.

Claire-Louise Bennett will be speaking about her debut collection, published by Fitzcarraldo Press, called Pond.

Bennett began writing, she has said, ‘in order to keep rationality and purpose at bay, to prolong and bask in the rhythmic chaos of existence, to remain adrift … and luxuriate in the magnificent mystery of everything’. Her startlingly original debut collection of short stories, Pond, won the White Review Short Story Prize in 2013. Eimear McBride, author of A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing, described Pond as ‘intelligent and funny, innovative and provocative’ and Deborah Levy believes she is ‘a major writer to be discovered and treasured.’ Come along and discover her for yourself.

This event is free. 6.30 for 7.00pm
